Workshop 3:
Workshop Chairs: Prof. Erica Donner and Prof. Nicholas Ashbolt
Background: The Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Solving Antimicrobial Resistance in Agribusinesses, Food and Environments (CRC SAAFE) has recently been established with total funds of $149M for the next ten years. Around 70 organisations have partnered in this multi-sectoral One Health CRC, including a water industry consortium that will address the uncertainties currently preventing them from understanding the significance of AMR-associated risks to their businesses and customers.
Workshop Objective: To frame key research data gaps to reduce uncertainties associated with environmental AMR in the context of wastewater treatment and recycled water use.
Workshop Agenda: In this workshop participants will examine the state of the science for standardising AMR monitoring methods and metadata, before contributing to the preparation of a globally focused white paper investigating the “Contribution of wastewater treatment and disposal to the emerging risk of antimicrobial resistance”.
