As a research-for-development agency, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) faces the intersecting and complex challenges of how to grow more food, improve human nutrition and reduce poverty using less land, water and energy. ACIAR works with partner countries to identify research priorities, and then to broker research partnerships and commission research projects. After a project is established, ACIAR monitors progress and outcomes throughout the project cycle to maximise impact and return on investment. By facilitating collaborative international partnerships between public and private research institutions, ACIAR provides a vehicle for Australia to strategically contribute to poverty reduction and improved livelihoods in developing countries throughout the Indo–Pacific.
Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australia’s horticulture industry. Our primary function is to create value for horticulture growers and those across the horticulture supply chain. Each year we invest more than $100 million in R&D, marketing and trade programs on behalf of industry. Through these investments, we are working to improve the productivity, farm gate profitability and global competitiveness of specific industries, and Australian horticulture as a whole. While the investment decisions we make are deliberate, considered and evidence-based, innovation sits at the heart of what we do to make big gains.
