Staging of Brain Degeneration in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Types 2 and 3
Biography
Associate Professor Ian Harding is Group Leader of the Cerebellum & Neurodegeneration Research Group at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. He is internationally recognized for his leadership and technical expertise in neuroimaging, fluid biomarker, and behavioural tracking research in neurodegenerative diseases. He is the principal investigator of multiple international research consortia, including the ENIGMA-Ataxia neuroimaging consortium (22 sites worldwide), and co-lead of the Ataxia Global Initiative MRI working group.
A/Prof Harding has expertise in the neuroanatomy and symptom expression/progression of neurodegenerative diseases. His research uses multimodal human neuroimaging (structural, functional, diffusion & susceptibility MRI, and positron emission tomography), biofluid assays, digital cognitive and motor assessments, and clinical phenotyping to provide in-depth disease characterization and biomarker validation for objective clinical assessment and treatment monitoring. His work has a specific focus on degenerative movement disorders, with extensions to cognitive and autonomic diseases.
