Abstract

Biography

Associate Professor Kalinda Griffiths is the Director of Poche SA+NT, Flinders University and the Research and Education Lead for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance. She is a cancer epidemiologist with almost 25years of experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research. Her expertise covers statistical methodologies, data governance, development, and application. She is known for her innovative research on Indigenous data governance; the measurement of health disparities; improving cancer services and outcomes; and building health research capabilities in regional and remote Australia. Her work has been acknowledged through a number of awards (2023 - CDU Indigenous Alumni Award Special Commendation; 2021 - Australian Health Promotion Association of Australia Thinker in Residence; 2019 - Science and Technology Australia Superstar of STEM; 2019 - Lowitja Institute, Emerging Researcher award), and is reflected in her advisory and chairing roles (Chair - Fed. Dept. Social Services, Longitudinal Studies of Indigenous Children Board; Member - Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Indigenous Statistical and Information Advisory Group; Member - Fed. Dept. Finance, National Data Advisory Council; Member - Cancer Australia - National Framework for Genomics in Cancer Control, Expert Advisory Group). Associate Professor Griffiths has a strong track record in multidisciplinary applied epidemiology and policy relevant translational research that underpins the implementation of governance processes in the collection, storage and use of Indigenous data.
