His Honour Professor the Honourable Hugh Heggie AO PSM is the 23rd Administrator of the Northern Territory, having commenced his appointment on 2 February 2023. Born in Melbourne, he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne before relocating to the Northern Territory in 2001. With a career spanning over five decades, Professor Heggie has held significant positions, including Chief Health Officer and Executive Director of Public Health and Clinical Excellence in the Northern Territory from 2016 to 2022. Recognised for his dedicated service to community health, particularly for Indigenous Australians, Professor Heggie was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2021. In 2024, he was further honoured as an Officer of the Order of Australia. His humanitarian efforts extend to disaster response work, such as his involvement in Cyclone Pam relief in Vanuatu, for which he received the Australian Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal.
